An Altamont man was killed in a three-vehicle accident near St. Elmo this morning. According to the Illinois State Police, a car driven by Jeffrey Beck and a tractor-trailer driven by William Daume of Texas were stopped on I-70 near milepost 75, when a van driven by Joshua Willis of Ohio failed to reduce speed and struck the rear of Beck’s car. Subsequently, Beck’s car struck the rear of the semi-trailer being pulled by Daume. Beck was entrapped and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fayette County Coroner. Willis was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
