The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a silent auction for 38 impounded deer stands and 10 sets of climbing sticks on Saturday, August 20th from 8:30 -11:30 a.m. at the special events lot next to the government vehicle compound, south of the Lake Shelbyville Administration Building. Since the last sale 43 tree stands have been impounded on Lake Shelbyville for abandonment of personal property or failure to comply with posted restrictions. Of these, 38 stands are commercial models in good condition and include single and buddy ladder stands, portable lock-ons and climbing stands along with 10 sets of climbing sticks. The remaining stands/sticks were either home-made or in poor condition and were destroyed due to safety concerns. Proceeds from the auction will help fund the 8th Annual Youth Deer Hunt held in October and the 27st Annual Disabled Deer Hunt held in November. Anyone wishing to bid on any of the stands will be able to view all 38 stands and 10 sets of sticks at the above date, time, and location. Bidders will fill out a bid sheet with their contact information, the stand number(s) they are bidding on, the bid amounts, and a mandatory liability form holding the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and any of its partners harmless in the event of a tree stand accident. Sealed bids will be opened immediately following the close of open bidding on August 20th at 11:30 a.m. and the high bidder(s) will be notified by phone to pick up the awarded stand(s) that afternoon (August 20th).
