Illinois’ top lawmakers are still free to spend as much as they can on statehouse races, but political action committees have to live within limits. A federal judge yesterday ruled a 2009 cap on campaign contributions for PACs that exempts legislative leaders is constitutional. The Liberty Justice Center sued, after the center’s Jacob Huebert said it’s unfair to allow Illinois’ political leaders to “tilt” the state’s campaign finance system in their favor.
