Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner’s budget estimates for this year aren’t good. But he insists they’re not as bad as figures from the legislature. The governor says his figures show the state will end the budget year in July with a five-point-four-billion-dollar deficit. The legislature’s Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability says the deficit will be just under eight-billion-dollars. Rauner’s office says the legislature didn’t factor in savings from Medicaid and isn’t accounting for “leftover” money from Illinois’ rainy day fund or other line items.
