Cook County Board President To Propose Sugary Soft Drink Tax
(Chicago, IL) — Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle is expected to propose a new tax on sugary drinks. The “ChicagoTribune” reports the penny-an-ounce tax will be part of her 2017 budget address today. Beverages that could be affected include soda, lemonade and sports drinks. The extra revenue generated would be used to close a 174-million-dollar budget gap.
