John A. Hoene, 96, of Neoga, Illinois, formerly of Sigel, and Effingham, Illinois, passed away at 7:43 P. M., Friday, October 14, 2016, in the Heartland Christian Village of Neoga. Mr. Hoene was born October 8, 1920, in Sigel, Illinois, the son of John and Christine (Will) Hoene.
He was a retired farmer and he was a member of the St. Michael, The Archangel Church of Sigel, Illinois. Mr. Hoene also served as a Staff Sargent, in the United States Air Force during World War II. John served on the Board of Directors of Effingham Equity for twenty-five years. John was still driving the combine at the age of eighty-eight years. Mr. Hoene was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Sigel American Legion, both of Sigel, IL and he served on numerous Church and School Boards. John married Ruth Pruemer, May 11, 1949 in Teutopolis, IL.
Mr. Hoene leaves his wife Ruth Hoene of Neoga, IL, after sixty-seven years of marriage; five children, Ken Hoene and wife Dawn of rural Shelbyville, IL, Joe Hoene and wife Jeanne of Sigel, IL, Mary Hoene and Fiancee Art Wente of Effingham, IL, Paul Hoene and wife Martha of Sigel, IL and Mark Hoene and wife Joyce of Stewardson, IL; sixteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; Mr. Hoene was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Tom Hoene; one grandson, Tyler Hoene; three brothers, Alphonse Hoene, Norbert Hoene and Raymond Hoene; four sisters, Ann Bushur, Rose Koester, Thresa Hartke and Eleanor Fuesting.
In Lieu of flowers, the family suggest Memorials be made to the St. Michael School of Sigel, IL, or to the donor’s choice .
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 18, 2016, in the St. Michael, The Archangel Church of Sigel, Illinois, with the Rev. Fr. Sander Ery, officiating. Visitation for Relatives and Friends will be held from 4:00 P.M., to 8:00 P.M., Monday, October 17, 2016, at the St. Michael, The Archangel Church of Sigel, with a K of C Rosary at 7:30 P.M., Monday, by the Sigel K of C’s. Burial will be in the St. Michael Cemetery of Sigel, IL with Military Services conducted by the Sigel American Legion of Sigel, IL.
