Karmeier Takes Gavel As Chief Justice
(Springfield, IL) — There is a new chief justice of the Illinois Supreme Court. Today in Springfield, Justice Lloyd Karmeier is being sworn in for a three-year term as the one-hundred-twentieth chief justice in the court’s history. The 76-year-old Karmeier, from Nashville, Illinois, has served on the high court since 2004 and is replacing Justice Rita Garman. Karmeier was reelected in 2014 to a ten-year term on the high court.
