Two people were injured in an accident early this morning near St. Elmo. Illinois State Police say a vehicle driven by Alexandra Rayburn of Chicago was eastbound on I-70 when she lost control and drove off the south shoulder near exit 76, then across a field and up an embankment leading to the interstate overpass. The vehicle overturned and came to a rest at the top of the embankment. Rayburn and her passenger, Abigail Schrantz, of Gurnee, were transported by ambulance to St. Anthony’s Hospital. Rayburn was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane usage, reckless driving, illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver, possession of less than 10 grams of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, and use of intoxicating compounds. Schrantz was charged with illegal transportation of alcohol by a passenger, possession of cannabis less than 10 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, and use of intoxicating compounds.
