Cook County Board Expected To Vote On Sugary Drink Tax
(Chicago, IL) — The Cook County Board is expected to vote today on whether to place a tax on sugary beverages. The penny-an-ounce tax would include drinks with zero-calorie sweeteners like diet soda. Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle believes the new financial charge would close the budget gap without cutting public health or safety services.
