The Lake Land College Community Choir will present a holiday concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20 in the Lake Land College Theater.
The concert begins with a set of gospel classics, including “Down by the Riverside,” “Take My Hand, Precious Lord,” and “Amazing Grace.” Choir members will then present a medley of traditional folksongs titled “Americana.” The program also celebrates the holiday season, with carols including “Love Came Down at Christmas,” featuring Jenna Bingham of Effingham on oboe; “The Little Drummer Boy”; and “Angels in Seven,” a modern take on the classic “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.” Nostalgia will be in the air in the final set of the program, with holiday favorites “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting),” “The Christmas Waltz,” made famous by Frank Sinatra in 1954, and a reminder that “We All Need a Little Christmas.” A reception will follow in the dining area of Laker Point.
Under the direction of Nancy Caldwell, music instructor, the Community Choir is a choir of mixed voices including students from the college as well as members of surrounding communities such as Mattoon, Charleston, Effingham, Casey, Neoga, Arthur, Sullivan and Windsor. Ann Roedl of Effingham accompanies the choir. The Community Choir was formed in January of 1998 and performs two concerts annually.
The concert is free and open to the public.
