Indiana State snapped EIU’s winning streak at three games with an 88-85 victory in double-overtime. The Panthers head to the break at 8-5. They’ll open the OVC schedule against Jacksonville State on New Year’s Eve at Lantz Arena.
The EIU women’s team slipped to 4-8 with a 78-64 loss to Cincinnati.
Malcolm Hill had 21 points as Illinois beat Missouri 75-66 in the Braggin’ Rights game in St. Louis. The Illini have won six straight to improve to 10-and-3.
Girls’ high school basketball: Mattoon improved to 13-0 with a 63-53 win over Monticello. The Lady Wave had four players in double figures, led by Sierra Thompson’s 18. Tri-County beat Shelbyville, Okaw Valley over Altamont, Windsor/Stew-Stras lost to Chrisman, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond topped St. Teresa, and Cumberland fell to Oakwood.
Boys’ games: Vandalia won the St. Elmo Holiday Tournament by the slimmest of margins, 68-67 over the host school. Cumberland beat CH/BC for third place.
