From the Illinois State Police:
Captain Louis Kink, District 10 Commander, wishes everyone a Joyous and Happy Holiday Season , but also encourages a safe celebratory season when it comes to getting behind the wheel for holiday travel. A few friendly reminders and safety tips for the Holidays.
-Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death among those between ages 1-54 in the U.S. and most traffic crashes are largely preventable. Please be accountable for your actions and do your best to prevent a traffic crash.
-When attending holiday gatherings involving alcohol, please make sure you have a designated driver or prior arrangements so an intoxicated individual doesn’t get behind the wheel.
-Make sure everyone in the car is buckled and up and strapped in properly, it’s estimated the risk of fatal injuries is cut in half when seat belts are worn.
-Limit any distractions, including cell phones and be sure to watch your speed and surrounding speed limits.
Kirk also would like to remind residents that District 10 troopers will be aggressively patrolling the roadways over the Holiday season looking for impaired drivers and other drivers whose actions may potentially cause a fatal crash. Also please remember to slow down, or pull over for any emergency vehicles you may come across while traveling as well.
