Governor Rauner is extending the life of a state tax credit program that helps a number of Illinois cities with plans to revitalize their downtowns. The River Edge Redevelopment Zone program provides tax credits for restoring and preserving historic buildings and other structures within downtown communities. The extension of the program is being applauded by towns where such zones exist, including Rockford, Aurora, Elgin, Peoria and East St. Louis.
