According to a press release from the Mattoon Police Department, Steven A. Terry Barron, age 21 of Chicago, was arrested on January 2nd 2017 at 1:00 a.m. The incident began when police responded to a domestic disturbance in the 1800 block of S. 9th street during the evening of Jan. 1st.
Upon arrival officers found Barron to be injured by lacerations from a knife. Barron’s injuries were non-life threatening but he was transported to SBLHC for treatment of his wounds. Investigation revealed that Barron allegedly struck a woman and that he had also battered her with a broom stick. The victim allegedly obtained and used a knife as a defensive weapon in order to stop the attack.
Barron was arrested for Domestic Battery upon his release from SBLHC. An IDOC Parole hold warrant of arrest was also obtained at that time for Barron. That warrant of arrest alleges that Barron was on parole from prison for Aggravated Armed Robbery with a Firearm at the time the new offense was allegedly committed. Barron was taken to the Coles County jail.
