Moody’s: Illinois’ Population Loss A Credit Negative
(Chicago, IL) — The exodus of people from Illinois is causing more worries about the state’s credit. Moody’s Investors Service yesterday said the state is looking at a “self-reinforcing cycle of population loss and economic stagnation.” Moody’s didn’t downgrade Illinois’ credit, but says the loss of people and lack of jobs is a worry. Moody’s also said Illinois could soon be spending 30-percent of its money on state pensions.
