On Christmas Eve, HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital was blessed to receive approximately 60 stuffed bears and puppies donated by Kay Jewelers in Effingham. Kay Jewelers donated the stuffed animals for pediatric patients at the hospital and for babies being born at St. Anthony’s.
The stuffed animals were collected through a Kay Jewelers store project for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. During the holiday season, Kay Jewelers’ customers were able to “purchase” a bear or puppy for about $15 and these funds are donated to St. Jude’s. The customer could either take the stuffed animal home with them, or they could choose to donate it to a local organization. In the Effingham store’s case, the recipient of these stuffed toy donations was HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital.
Michael Wall, St. Anthony’s Director of Philanthropy, shared the hospital’s appreciation for the donation. “We are truly grateful for Kay Jewelers of Effingham naming St. Anthony’s as the recipient of the stuffed animal donations by their customers, and for their customers for making the donations,” he said. “It is this spirit of giving that makes Effingham a wonderful community in which to live. This generosity allows St. Anthony’s to continue offering our healing ministry to the region, as we have for over 140 years.”
HSHS St. Anthony’s Foundation is the fundraising organization of St. Anthony’s and was established to ensure the continuing growth, stability and future of health care in this region.
