Lawrence William Watson, 34, of Madison Wisconsin has been arrested and is facing multiple charges after a two vehicle traffic crash along I-57, northbound, in Champaign County the morning of Monday, February 6th around 9:45 A.M.
According to a recent press release from Illinois State Police District 10, Watson (unit 1) was reported to 911 Dispatch as a reckless driver traveling north on I-57. As Watson was approaching milepost 222.5 he began rear-ending the driver of unit 2 at a high rate of speed. It then caused unit 2 to travel towards the center median. Afterwards, unit 1 then exited his vehicle and began walking back n’ forth in the northbound lanes. Later unit 1 then jumped onto the hood of an additional vehicle causing damage to that car as well.
Watson was then arrested, transported to an area hospital for medical evaluation and has been charged with reckless driving, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, reckless conduct, criminal damage to property, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, resisting/obstructing a peace officer, and improper walking on a highway.
