According to a recent press release from Illinois State Police District 10, two pedestrians were struck on I-72 the night of Thursday, February 9th at 7:45 PM in a hit and run car crash. The incident occurred Eastbound near milepost 148.
Recent updates have been revealed about the vehicle believed to be involved in the incident: The vehicle is now believed to be a gray or silver Ford Taurus/Focus with front bumper passenger side damage. The front bumper on the passenger side may still have dark blue jean material attached. Other damage expected to the vehicle include the black plastic engine guard/ground effects panel.
The pedestrians struck by the hit and run were Christopher A. Moore, 48, of Decatur, IL and Jeffery A. Mounts, 57, of Washington, PA. Both were transported by ambulance to separate hospitals and suffered non-life threatening injuries. Both are expected to recover well. One was a tow truck operator and the other had requested service from the towing company. They were working on loading a vehicle onto the flatbed of the tow truck along the shoulder of the road when they were struck.
