Donald L. Hall age 81 of Newton passed away Friday, February 10, 2017 at Richland Memorial Hospital, Olney, Illinois.
Funeral services for Don will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton with Rev. Gary Hall officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 14, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Plainfield Cemetery, Rose Hill, Illinois with military rites by Jasper Post No. 20 of the American Legion.
Don was born on July 7, 1935 in Jasper County, Illinois the son of Ralph J. and Helen (Dunn) Hall. Don served his country in the United States Army from 1958 – 1960. Following his discharge from service, he married Ruby A. Cochran on July 22, 1960, in Fairfax, Virginia. Ruby preceded him in death on August 10, 1999. For over twenty-five years, Don owned and operated Don Hall Tom’s Sales. He later worked for Jesse B. Holt in the truss shop and Petty’s in Effingham.
Don was a member of the Scott Avenue Christian Church. He enjoyed listening to country music and dancing. In his early years, he enjoyed fishing and camping with his sons. Don was a St. Louis Cardinal fan. He enjoyed watching baseball and old westerns.
Don will be loved and remembered by his sons Randy Hall, wife Donna of Effingham and Rusty Hall, wife Tonya of Newton; grandchildren Brandon, Quinton, and Michelle Hall all of Effingham and Garrett Hall of Newton; sister Betty J. Alumbaugh of Oblong; and special friend Norma Jenkins of Olney.
His parents, wife Ruby, brothers Curtis and Robert Hall and sister Jean Ghast preceded him in death.
Memorial gifts in honor of Don may be made to the Plainfield Cemetery Care Fund.
