Aetna, Humana Health Insurance Merger Dead
(Undated) — A merger that would have created the nation’s biggest private Medicare insurer is dead. Health insurance giants Aetna and Humana said this morning they’re giving up on what would have been a 37-billion dollar merger. Last month, a federal court blocked the deal on antitrust grounds. The companies agreed to merge in 2015 and were trying to create the biggest seller of private Medicare plans in the U.S. The Obama administration and several states fought the deal, arguing that seniors would be left with fewer and more expensive Medicare Advantage choices.
