According to a press release from the Mattoon Police Department, on the evening of Sunday, February 19th Mattoon police responded to the apartments at 4213 Lakeland Blvd in regards to the report of an Armed Robbery. Upon arrival officers spoke to a victim who had been physically assaulted and robbed at gunpoint. The victim reported to police that a group of men armed with handguns forcibly entered his apartment and demanded money from everyone inside the residence. The victim alleged that several of the men struck him with firearms when he initially declined to provide them with money. The victim was treated by paramedics for cuts and blunt force injuries to his head and face.
Mattoon police later arrested Kenneth W. Moultrie Jr., age 21 of Charleston, as one alleged suspect in this case. Moultrie was arrested on Monday February 20th at 2:17 a.m. The arrest occurred in the 1700 block of 11th street, Charleston, IL. Moultrie was charged with Home Invasion, Armed Robbery, and Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon.
The charges against Moultrie allege that he was armed with a firearm and forcibly entered the victim’s apartment, that he robbed two (2) victims at gunpoint, and that he injured one victim by striking him about the head and face with a pistol.
Moultrie was taken to the Coles County jail. The investigation by Mattoon police continues.
