Illinois State Police (ISP) District 10 is reporting the arrest of Nelson Javier Valentine-Caban, 25, of Detroit, MI, for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of Incomplete Assignment of Vehicle Title, Improper Use of Registration, No Valid Driver’s License, Speeding 84 MPH in a 70 MPH Zone, and Civil Law Possession of Cannabis.
On Sunday, March 19, 2017 at approximately 12:40 a.m., an Illinois State Police Trooper was on patrol on I-57 milepost 241 in Champaign County. The Trooper observed a 2002 Volvo sedan, driven by Valentine-Caban, traveling southbound at 84 MPH in a 70 MPH zone. The Trooper initiated a traffic stop. The driver was unable to provide a driver’s license. A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a loaded revolver and 1.7 grams of suspected cannabis. A firearm inquiry revealed the revolver was reported stolen from Detroit, MI. Valentine-Caban was arrested and transported to the Champaign County Jail.
