Illinois To Stop Mowing To Encourage Monarch Butterflies
(Springfield, IL) — The state of Illinois is parking many of its lawnmowers this summer. But not because the state is broke. Illinois’ Department of Transportation yesterday said it wants to mow less to encourage more Monarch Butterflies to migrate through the state. IDOT crews will now mow only 15-feet from the highway or interstate to give the butterflies more food on their journey across the state.
