House Meets Again As Budget Deadline Looms
(Springfield, IL) — A morning meeting among the four legislative leaders is raising hope that a budget deal may be ready by tomorrow’s midnight deadline. House Republican leader Jim Durkin said after the meeting that the four plan to meet again later today. Because the session is in overtime, minority Republican votes are needed to approve a spending plan, as well as a revenue plan that’s likely to include higher income taxes. Still unresolved is whether Rauner would sign a budget if his demands for action on non-budgetary reforms aren’t met. It’s also not clear if Rauner will agree to House Speaker Mike Madigan’s own set of demands
