A Champaign woman and her 11-year-old passenger escaped serious injury in an accident in Effingham County. Illinois State Police say Elizabeth Stonum was northbound on I-57 at mile post 152 when, according to her, a tractor-trailer attempted to merge, forcing her off the roadway. She then overcorrected and skidded across both lanes and into the ditch and overturned multiple times before coming to a rest in a corn field. Both Stonum and the boy were transported to St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
