Report: ESPN Tried To Replace Hill Following WH Comments
(Undated) — A new report says ESPN tried to take “SportsCenter” host Jemele Hill off the air following her criticism of President Trump Monday. Hill called Trump a white supremacist via Twitter. The White House responded Wednesday calling the comments a “fireable offense.” Although Hill was not fired, ThinkProgress reports that ESPN reached out to two other black ESPN hosts to take Hill’s place following the White House’s comments. Both declined. Her co-host, Michael Smith also declined to do the show without Hill. Confronted with a situation in which the network could have to replace Hill and Smith with white hosts, ESPN asked her to join Smith on the air. ESPN has since denied the report, saying they never asked any other anchors to do the show.
