Cubs Out Slug Nationals In NLDS Game 5 To Advance
(Washington, DC) — The Chicago Cubs are headed back to the National League Championship Series. They out slugged the Nationals 9-8 in the deciding fifth game of the NL Division Series in Washington to advance. Addison Russell went 2-for-4 with four RBI for Chicago, which overcame an early 4-1 deficit to pull out the win. Russell’s two-run double keyed a four-run fifth inning off reliever Max Scherzer to put the Cubs in front for good. Brian Duensing got the win in relief of starter Kyle Hendricks. Wade Davis worked out of jams in the eighth and ninth to post his third save of the series. Scherzer took the loss in relief of starter Gio Gonzalez. Daniel Murphy hit a solo homer and Michael Taylor a three-run shot for the Nats. The Cubs play the Dodgers in the NLCS starting Saturday in Los Angeles.
