Round one of the IHSA state golf tournament is in the books. Mattoon sophomore Kira Wolf, who finished sixth as a freshman, is in a four-way for first place after shooting even par.
In Class 1A, Effingham’s Abbi Burgess is four shots back; Charleston’s Paige Chappell is six back; Effingham’s Macy Lugwig is seven behind the leader; and St. Anthony teammates Ava Wegman and Clare McHugh are nine shots off the pace.
In the team standings, the St. Anthony girls are in third place, and Charleston is tied for fourth.
At the boys’ 2A tournament, Charleston’s Preston Smith is tied for ninth, and Mattoon’s Nick Nguyen is in 18th.
