Monday morning, January 15th, a two vehicle fatal crash occurred along I-57 southbound at milepost 246 in Champaign County. Preliminary details from Illinois State Police District 10 indicate Unit 1, a 58 year old male from Savoy, IL was northbound on I-57, while unit 2, a 65 year old male from Paxton, IL, was southbound. The driver of unit 1 lost control of his vehicle and left the roadway to the left, slid through the median sideways and into the southbound lanes of traffic. Unit 1 then struck unit 2 on the driver’s side. Both individuals were transported to an area hospital. Unit 1 succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, while unit 2 had non-life threatening injuries. At this time, the names are not being released, the crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.
