(Frankfort, KY) — Kentucky is the first state to require people with Medicaid to work. The move comes a day after the Trump administration allowed changes on the state level Friday. The new policy means certain Medicaid recipients will have to hold jobs or other employment activities for 80 hours a month. Medicaid managers are calling it community engagement, but Governor Bevin’s office is calling it a work requirement and a model for the nation. Around nine other states are currently seeking similar changes. The changes apply to able-bodied adults, not full-time students, pregnant women or the medically frail. Around a third of Kentuckians are on Medicaid. The changes take effect in July.
