(Norridgewock, ME) — The nationwide manhunt for the suspect accused of gunning down a Maine sheriff’s deputy is over.
At a news conference today, Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster said 29-year-old John Daniel Williams is now in custody. Officers arrested Williams shortly after noon today in a heavily wooded area of Norridgewock ending a four-day manhunt. Authorities say Williams shot and killed Somerset County Deputy Corporal Eugene Cole on Wednesday. About 150 law enforcement officers were involved in the search. Williams was found only about a quarter mile away from an area of interest in the search. Corporal Cole’s handcuffs were used to detain the suspect.
