Mattoon Police arrested Kirk T. Mattingly, 36 years of age of Mattoon, for the offense of Burglary. The arrest occurred on 07/24/2018 at 12:15pm at the Mattoon PD.
The charge alleges that during the early morning hours of 07/22/2018, Mattoon Police located a male walking in the Catholic Charities parking lot at approximately 3am, and identified him as being Mr. Mattingly at that time. Mr. Mattingly was not held at that time, due to no known criminal offenses having taken place at that time. On 07/23/18, Mattoon Police were called to Catholic Charities for a report of someone having broken into the store, and having stolen numerous items from within. On 07/24/2018, Mattoon Police re-contacted Mr. Mattingly, who during an interview with police allegedly admitted to having broken into Catholic Charities, and having stolen items from the store during the early morning hours of 07/22/18. Mr. Mattingly allegedly cooperated with investigators, and provided them information about where to retrieve the property he had stolen.
Mr. Mattingly was taken to the Coles County Jail.
