The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a Flood Advisory for Coles-Edgar-Moultrie-Jasper-Clark-Shelby-Cumberland and Effingham counties

Northern Jasper County in southeastern Illinois…
Clark County in east central Illinois…
Southeastern Shelby County in central Illinois…
Cumberland County in east central Illinois…
Northern Effingham County in south central Illinois…
* Until 400 PM CDT.
* At 1006 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to persistent moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding in the advisory area. Up to four inches of rain have already fallen.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include…Charleston, Mattoon, Effingham, Paris, Marshall, Toledo, Casey,Neoga, Teutopolis, Greenup, Martinsville, Oakland, Kansas, Ashmore, Windsor, Stewardson, Dieterich, Westfield, Humboldt and Brocton.
Additional rainfall of an inch or two is possible over portions of the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
This includes the following highways…
Interstate 57 between mile markers 154 and 201.
Interstate 70 between mile markers 83 and 154.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
