Robert Redford To Retire From Acting
(Undated) — Robert Redford is retiring. The 81-year-old screen legend told Entertainment Weekly today his upcoming The Old Man & The Gun will be his last acting job. Redford has starred in iconic films including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Three Days of the Condor, The Sting, The Natural, The Way We Were, and All the President’s Men. He says he’ll stick to the plan he laid out in a 2016 interview, when he said he’d do two more movies then be done with acting. He starred last year with Jane Fonda in Our Souls at Night. He plays a lifelong bank robber and prison escapee in The Old Man & The Gun, being released September 28th.
Redford’s first film was 1962’s War Hunt, a Korean War drama. He became an important star in Barefoot in the Park with Jane Fonda in 1967. Two years later, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, with Paul Newman, made him a superstar. He won a Best Director Oscar for Ordinary People in 1980, and he founded the Sundance Film Festival in Utah in 1978.
