Illinois Megachurch Leaders Resign Over Mishandling Of Misconduct Allegations
(South Barrington, IL) — An Illinois megachurch is in the news for all the wrong reasons. Leaders of Willow Creek church in suburban South Barrington are stepping down for mishandling allegations of sexual misconduct against founding pastor Bill Hybels. Lead pastor Heather Larson and other church elders announced their resignations during a packed congregational meeting last night. Hybels resigned from his leadership position in April after a Chicago Tribune investigation revealed he had been accused of sexual harassment and misconduct against women in his congregation for decades. Willow Creek is planning to bring in a council of outside Christian leaders to oversee an independent investigation of the allegations.
