70,000 Year-Old Drawing Found
(Jongensfontein, South Africa) — Scientists say they’ve discovered the earliest known drawing by a human. It’s about 70-thousand years old and was found in a cave in South Africa. The artwork isn’t overwhelming in an astethic sense — it’s a series of crosshatched lines drawn on a rock with red ochre. It is overwhelming in the antropological sense — it’s thousands of years older than other drawings found in caves in Europe. Researchers outline their discovery in the journal Ecology and Evolution.
