(Raleigh, NC) — The Carolina coast is being battered by intense winds and torrential rain from Tropical Storm Florence. The storm’s maximum sustained winds are at 65 miles an hour, but the storm as a whole is only moving at five miles an hour. Communities in the storm’s path are being swamped with rain because of the slow movement. The center of the storm is currently about 15 miles from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Forecasters expect the storm to weaken as it moves further inland. In the Carolinas, there are reports of 850-thousand customers without power. At least five people have died as a result of Florence, including a mother and her infant child who were killed when a tree fell on their home in Wilmington, North Carolina.
