U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says he will coordinate closely with Japan during his denuclearization talks in North Korea. Pompeo met with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo today before heading to Pyongyang. Pompeo also promised he would raise the issue of North Korea’s abductions of Japanese citizens during his denuclearization talks. Despite Kim Jong Un’s vow to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, Japan still considers North Korea a “dire threat” and is pushing ahead with plans to bolster its ballistic missile defenses.
