Six Minnesota Children Have Polio-Like Disease
(Undated) — Six Minnestoa children have a disease that’s similar to polio. They’ve been diagnosed since mid-September with acute flaccid myelitis, a disease that attacks the spinal cord and can lead to paralysis. Children are most often affected and usually Minnesota sees no more than a single case a year. The disease has been on the radar for some time, with 262 cases reported in the U.S. over the past four years. There’s no vaccine and symptoms include limb weakness and difficulty talking or swallowing.
