(Undated) — A large majority of Americans say tech companies have a responsibility to prevent misuse of their social media platforms to influence U.S. elections. The survey by the Pew Research Center found more than 72 percent of Republicans and 80 percent of Democrats agree that Facebook, Twitter, Google and others need to prevent misuse. However, only a third of Americans are very or somewhat confident that they will be able to stop outside groups from using their platforms to mislead and possibly influence voters. Twenty-two percent of Americans said they are not at all confident social media companies can stop the abuse.
