(Washington, DC) — Romaine lettuce is heading back to markets. Just before Thanksgiving, the FDA urged restaurants, grocers, and consumers to throw out their romaine lettuce due to an E. coli outbreak. The outbreak sickened more than 40 people in 12 states. Today, the FDA released a statement saying that the most likely source of the contamination is from lettuce grown in California’s Central Coast, which lies between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The FDA says romaine producers and distributors will include product labeling and dating to assure consumers that the lettuce they’re buying isn’t associated with the outbreak.
