Panthers’ Reid Says Drug Tests Are Not Random
(Charlotte, NC) — Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid says he’s being frequently drug-tested because he kneeled in protest during the national anthem. Reid was the first player to kneel with Colin Kaepernick in his protest against racial injustice in 2016. Last May, Reid filed a collusion grievance against the NFL alleging he was being kept out of the league because of his protest. He eventually signed on with the Panthers in September, and has continued to kneel during the anthem. Yesterday, Reid told reporters he was just given his seventh random drug test in eleven weeks. All NFL players are given random drug tests, but Reid claims he’s being singled out.
According to Yahoo Sports, the odds of Reid being chosen randomly six times in eleven weeks is less than one-percent. Reid said, “There’s no way that’s random.”
