(New York, NY) — The Dow Jones Industrial Average is seeing some large losses today on an abbreviated trading day. Markets are being hit hard by the partial government shutdown, interest rates and reports showing a slowdown in the U.S. economy. Investors also appear to be shaken up following news that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin spoke to the CEOs of six major U.S. banks about their financial stability. Today’s drop has the S&P 500 on the cusp of a bear market. At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 653 points to 21-792. The Nasdaq lost 140 points to 61-92. The S&P 500 dropped 65 points to 23-51. Markets are closed tomorrow.
