Illinois Says ‘No’ To Michigan’s Carp Money
(Springfield, IL) — Illinois is saying thanks, but no thanks to the state of Michigan’s offer to help keep Asian carp out of Lake Michigan. Governor Rauner last week sent a letter to Michigan’s governor, declining that state’s offer of eight million-dollars to help pay for barriers on the Illinois River to keep the carp out of Lake Michigan. Rauner said the money would come too late to do any real good. A number of Great Lake states want Illinois to build the barriers, but Illinois leaders says the project would cost too much and may not be necessary.
