Russia Granting US Citizen Paul Whelan Consular Access
(Moscow) — Russia is granting limited access to an American businessman arrested on spying charges. The Russian foreign ministry said U.S. consular officials were allowed to see Paul Whelan today. This comes after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he was “hopeful” Russian officials would do so. The family of the 48-year-old ex-Marine says he’s innocent and he was only in Moscow to attend a wedding. Whelan works as the corporate security director for BorgWarner, an auto parts supplier in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
