Scientists: Dead Sea An Environmental Disaster In Slow Motion
(Undated) — Scientists say the Dead Sea is shrinking so fast it could be just a tiny pool by the middle of this century. Scientists with the Dead Sea and Arava Science Center say the water level of the Biblical lake on the border of Israel and Jordan is now falling by as much as five feet a year. They call what’s happening an “environmental disaster in slow motion. Environmentalists say the region’s growing population means more competition for scarce water resources. They also blame factories mining minerals by evaporating water for shrinking the Dead Sea.
