Illinois Prison Officials Agree To Federal Healthcare Monitor
(Springfield, IL) — The federal government is going to soon be in charge of healthcare in Illinois’ prisons. The state’s Department of Corrections yesterday announced an agreement with the ACLU that will install a federal monitor to oversee how inmates are being cared for. The agreement ends an eight-year-old lawsuit over health and dental care inside Illinois’ prisons. The consent decree will force the state’s hand when it comes to spending and staffing levels in the state’s correctional facilities.
