For Immediate Release from the Charleston Police Department
Counterfeit Money found in Charleston
The Charleston Police Department has received numerous fake 50 and 100 dollar bills today, 1/10/19. These bills were located by local citizens scattered around Charleston. These particular bills were sold online at various retailers, but are not meant to be used for goods or services.
To all local businesses, please pay closer attention to larger bills you may receive. The 100 dollar bills have what appears to be Chinese writing on the back of the bill and the texture of the bill is very smooth. The 50 dollar bills have the word “copy” on the front and the back and black dash lines in one corner of the bill both on the front and the back.
If you receive one of these bills from a customer you should file a forgery report with the local police department. Anyone attempting to use these “fake” bills, or similar counterfeit money, could face felony charges of Forgery, and possibly, money laundering.
