(Washington, DC) — The partial government shutdown is now the longest in this nation’s history. Many federal agencies have been closed for 22 days. There is no sign that a shutdown entering its fourth week is about to end. President Trump continues to demand money to build a barrier along the border with Mexico to protect the nation. Democratic leaders continue to say it is wrong to hold millions of Americans workers hostage so the President can get what he wants and they will not negotiate until the government reopens.
The U.S. House has passed bills to fund the government and allow for negotiations on border security, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he won’t bring those bills up for a vote in that chamber since they do not have the support of the President. On Friday hundreds of thousands of federal workers received a paycheck with zero dollars.
