Democrats Introduce Plan To Spike Teacher Pay
(Springfield, IL) — A pair of Democratic state lawmakers are pushing a plan to make it easier for teachers to get larger pay raises. Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant and state Representative Kathleen Willis both want to rollback a state law that requires local schools to pay the pension cost for any teacher raise over three-percent. Supporters say the law is designed to stop end-of-career raises that cost taxpayers down the line. Bertino-Tarrant and Willis say the three-percent cap is hurting efforts to find and keep qualified teachers.
